On Thursday (8/27) the T-Birds went over to fellow Catholic rival Delphos St. Johns at the Vatican. A back and forth match saw the Jays win set one 25-21. LCC rallied in the 2nd set to post a 25-20 win. But in the end, DSJ proved to be too strong a match-up for the young T-Birds and won sets three 25-21 and a blistering fourth set 27-25.
Saturday the 29th the Lady T-Birds had their home opener against cross town rival Bath Wildkittens. Led by Senior Natalie Snider’s team high 26 assists and Junior Ava Nieman’s 9 kills, the Birds were able to post a 3-0 straight sets victory, 25-14, 27-25 and 25-12. The play of the match was the last point of the first set when sophomore Mornay McBroom slammed down an overpass for a kill that got the home crowd to their feet.
Early season stats are led by mostly seniors. Lauren Dardio leads the way with 37 kills and 6 total blocks, Abby Tabler has 51 digs and Natalie Snider with 84 assists. The lone underclassmen to make the stats list is sophomore Ellen Dee with the team leading 16 aces!
