SPENCERVILLE — Sometimes it’s nice to run alone.
Lima Central Catholic sophomore Emily Sreenan is starting to get used to it.
At Saturday’s Spencerville Bearcat Invitational, Sreenan got out in the lead early and never looked back, en route to a winning time in the Red Division of 19 minutes, 29.6 seconds on the 5,000 meter cross country course. Covington’s Carly Shell finished second in 19:55.1.
Sreenan’s win on Saturday marked her fourth consecutive win of the young season. So far, she has not been defeated this season.
On Saturday, Sreenan wasn’t sure how fast she was running, early on.
“It was really hard to feel how fast I was going,” Sreenan said. “Then I hit my (first) mile and knew I was really off. But, this is a slower course for me. I would have liked to have someone closer to push me. But, it was a fun race.”
At last week’s Columbus Grove Invitational, Sreenan set a personal-best, winning her race in 18:45.
A.J. Capotosto was LCC’s top boys finisher with a time of 20:37.
