Oak Harbor 71, LCC 54
It was a huge night for Madison Stolly on Tuesday night. The 5-foot-8 junior guard eclipsed the career 1,000-point mark in the first quarter, and went on to lead the T-Birds with 26 points, including 10-of-11 shooting from the free throw line. Stolly also had four rebounds and two steals. Teammate Samantha Koenig scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers for the T-Birds.
For most of the game, Lima Central Catholic kept it interesting.
Undefeated Oak Harbor led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter, and just 35-34 at the break.
In the second half, Bowling Green State University-bound Andrea Cecil proved to be too much to handle, as the 6-foot guard/post player scored 19 of her game-high 34 points to lead Oak Harbor to the victory. Cecil’s 34 points is a new Holiday Tournament record. She also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Teammate Emma Barney added 12 points for the Rockets.
“Overall, I was pretty happy at the way we played,” LCC coach Katie Krieg said. “I definitely think we took a step in the right direction. But, they went on a hot streak and we lost them on defense, a couple times in transition. And then we couldn’t buy a basket there for a good three or four minutes.
“I thought Madison (Stolly) did a good job (defensively) on Cecil, and I thought the rest of our girls did a good job of helping. So, I was really happy with our defense. Offensively, we looked good for three quarters, but in that fourth quarter we hit a cold streak.”
For the game, LCC shot 35 percent from the floor, while Oak Harbor shot 51 percent.
