Both the boys and girls swimmers sent multiple swimmers to this year’s district meet, and though none were able to advance to state, they were able to gain great experience and set many personal bests. They finished with 8 points at the meet, with freshman Cassie Rose scoring two and two relay teams scoring three each.
Cassie Rose swam her second-fastest time in the 200 free and reached the finals as a freshman, and also finished 15th in the 100 free. Brianna Braun swam her best-ever time in the 50 free in her final meet. The girls 200 free relay team (Cassie Rose, Brianna Braun, Emily Scheiwiller, Lauren Mayers) dropped almost two seconds and took 16th, scoring three points. But the biggest drop of the day was the 400 freestyle relay team (Khloe Kaskocsak, Emily Scheiwiller, Cassie Rose, Brianna Braun) who dropped almost 8 seconds and came in 19th.
The boys 200 medley relay and 400 free relay team (Greg Rohan, Mitchell Garlock, Tom McKinley, Donald Rader) dropped over a second from each time and finished 19th and 13th, respectively, scoring three points with their 13th place finish. Tommy McKinley dropped a second from his best 100 breast time, and Donald Rader dropped a second from his best butterfly time and finished 20th.
It was a great season for both teams, and also the final season for Coach Dan Reinicke after more than 20 years at the helm for the T-Bird swimmers. He won’t be going far as he will take over the girls golf team next season, but his influence on the swim program at LCC will be felt for years to come. LCC alum and collegiate swimmer Jacqueline Rex, who will be joining the faculty at LCC next year, will be taking over the reins after a year under Dan’s wing. Thanks Dan, good luck Jacqueline and thanks to seniors Brianna Braun, Mitch Garlock and Emily Scheiwiller for all of their hard work and dedication over the years and their impact on the entire swim program over their years at LCC!!!
