A long time fixture of the boys basketball program is replacing an alum and head coach of the girls basketball program.
Katie (Fisher) Krieg ’05 has decided to step down as head basketball coach of the girls program after five seasons and an overall record of 65-55. The Lady Thunderbirds were 12-12 in the 2016-2017 season, falling to New Bremen in the Sectional Final at Bath. Krieg and her husband Jeremy’04 are expecting their third child and with their children under the age of five, it makes sense for Krieg to step aside.
Her replacement is no stranger to Lima Central Catholic, as Ron Williams will take over the position. The 1982 graduate has been a long time assistant for both Bob Seggerson and Frank Kill. Williams was also the Athletic Director at LCC from 2010-2016. Williams is currently the Vice President of Finance & Human Resources at the Ohio State Beauty Academy. Williams will also have the honor of coaching his daughter Rosie, who will be a Sophomore next season.
Athletic Director Frank Kill said he was sad when Krieg informed him of her decision but was then thrilled that Williams would take the job, even if it meant losing a valuable asset to his bench with the boys program.
Krieg said with having three kids under four “it’s a lot to go through and we’ve made it work, but with three kids and all being young, we had to make a decision, and right now this is the right one for our family.” We would like to help in the youth programs for the both the boys and girls down the road, but right now this is best thing that needs to happen for our family.
Williams said he’s very excited to take over the program and at the same wants to put his own stamp on it a too. “Everything starts with defense and we will want to be aggressive on the defensive end. Offensively, we will look to attack the basket and have all the girls attack.” Williams told the Krieg’s the door is always open for them to return and with two girls who will come through the program in the years to come, don’t be surprised to see them helping out in some capacity.
